The report of the Court of Baronessa Violeta and Praetoria Prima, ninth Baronage of the Barony-Marche of the Debatable Lands, held on the 25th day of January Anno Societatis 59 at the celebration of Twelfth Night in the Barony-Marche of the Debatable Lands, as recorded by Gwendolyn the Graceful, Brehyres, Meistr-y-gân, assisted by Oyama Michiharu-dono, Deputy Pursuivant.
Their Excellencies thanked everyone for attending and remarked on how enjoyable all the day's activities were. They also shared that most positions in the Barony are looking for deputies and other volunteers, hoping to expand the number of people who are learning the duties and responsibilities of the group. In addition, Their Excellencies reminded the populace that there is a Baronial Discord server for any who wish to use that as social media.
Their Excellencies invited the Event Steward, Lady Forveleth Dunde, to address the populace. Lady Forveleth thanked all who had assisted with the many activities that day: Magister Ceindrech and The Honorable Lady Elss for site coordination; Lady Melodia for running the potluck lunch; Maisteri Urho for running the cookie competition; Ishiyama-Shonagon and The Honorable Lady Elinor for running the Arts and Sciences display and Baronial Arts and Sciences champion selection; The Honorable Lady Elinor for running the largesse derby and for assistance with event postings and flyers; The Honorable Lady Elsa for the Bardic competition; Brehyres Gwen for running dancing; Hara-Shonagon for running registration; The Honorable Lady Emilia for the site tokens; Baron Alaric for signage; The Honorable Lady Elss again for running the auction; Lady Rei for Bartertown; Brehyres Muirgheal and the brewers for the brewing competition and other potables; the merchants, and all who donated to any of the day's offerings; as well as Their Excellencies and their staff; the setup volunteers, and anyone who would be able to stay and clean up after Court.
Their Excellencies then invited The Honorable Lady Elinor Walden to draw the name of the winner of the largesse derby. Her Ladyship thanked all the participants, explaining that each 6 items donated earned a lottery ticket for the prize of a basket of items to assist in the making of additional largesse. The winning ticket was drawn and the basket presented to the winner: Mistress Anna Eisenkopf.
Their Exellencies next requested The Honorable Lady Elss inform the populace of the results of the silent auction. Her Ladyship reported that while not the highest single total raised, the day's auction was nonetheless very successful, in the top three of the Barony's auctions in recent memory, having raised $522 for the Barony.
Next, Their Excellencies invited Maisteri Uho Waltterinen to reveal the winners of the cookie competition. He first requested that all six entrants send their recipes to the Althing so that everyone could try them, and then shared the results: Baronessa's choice was Lady Tristyn of Gryffin's Keep's acorn cookies; Praetoria's choice were the Earl Grey cookies by Her Ladyship Elinor Walden; and the Populace choice was also Her Ladyship's Earl Grey cookies.
Following this, Their Excellencies asked Brehyres Muirgheal inghen Dubhghaill to present the prizes for the brewers' competition. Her Excellency announced that there were seven entries in each of the alcoholic and non-alcoholic categories. Third and second places in the non-alcoholic categories went to Aaron of the Debatable Lands, and first place to The Honorable Lady Gesa for her "tea from the farm." For the alcoholic entries, third place went to Lord Turlough Feolain; and second and first to The Honorable Lord Kumagaya Gentarou Masamoto.
Their Excellencies then gave leave to The Honorable Lady Gesa von Wellenstein to relinquish her office of Captain of the Horse and entrust Lord Yarden of the Debatable lands with the position.
Their Excellencies next requested The Honorable Lady Elsa Taliard to discuss the Baronial Bardic Champion competition. Her Ladyship thanked all eight performers, including those who chose to perform without wishing to be considered for the champion's position. Their Excellencies requested that Lord Patrokles Anthenaos and Lord Turlough Feolain present themselves, asking Lord Turlough to stand as second and naming Lord Patrokles their Baronial Champion and to represent the Barony at the next Seven Pearls competition. Their Excellencies followed this by inviting Ishiyama-Shonagon Gen'tarou Yori'ie to speak about the Arts & Sciences Championship. There were eight entries, all so different that it made comparison very difficult, so he did not envy Their Excellencies' choice. Their Excellencies then called Oyama Michiharu-dono forward, asking them to stand as Champion. Lady Eliza Allison, their provisional second, was not in attendance. Their Excellencies next sought Lady Finé Failain before them. Noting all the ways in which she contributes to the Barony, including providing lunch at Seven Pearls, membership in I Genesii, running games, and her unwavering support to Their Excellencies, They were pleased to award her an Amber Comet. Their Excellencies recalled Lord Turlough once more. Likewise recognizing all his contributions and valued service, assisting Lady Finé to run games, his constant help in setup, teardown, and assistance with the Baronial camp, They were pleased to present him with the Award of the Amber Comet. Following this, Their Excellencies requested the attendance of Lady Lartia Cerva. With appreciation for her artistry in weaving, her works of largesse, and her other dedication to the fiber arts, They were pleased to award her a Lapis Comet. Scroll by The Honorable Lady Nichola Beese, forthcoming.
Their Excellencies next required the presence of Baron Salvadore de la Torres. Citing His Excellency's continual helpfulness and generosity to the Barony, including assisting with tourneys, practices, event site setup and teardown, and many other acts of friendship, They wished to cement this goodwill and affection by awarding him a Jade Comet. Next, Their Excellencies wished to be once again attended by Brehyres Muirgheal inghn Dubhghaill. They spoke with Her Excellency of all the ways in which she enriches the Barony, and the innumerable service she has provided and continues to provide simply by being who she is, and for all these reasons and more, They were moved to name her a Companion of the Order of Copernicus. Their Excellencies thanked all scribes and wordsmiths who contributed to the day's Court.
Her Excellency Violeta once again addressed the populace, requesting that all check in on and take care of one another in the dark days to be faced, and to stay safe. Her Excellency Prima noted that the only time Their Excellencies argue is over choosing competition winners, because their choices are so difficult, and requested that the populace keep making them fight over the amazing works produced by Their populace.
There being no further business, the Court of Their Excellencies was closed.
